The Psalmist said, if God should judge us, who shall stand? We have all sinned and fallen short of the goodness of God. But there is hope.

What surprised me was not the ‘willing sinners’ but the unwilling ones.

What do I mean? One word: “motive/intention.” The unwilling one may not have the motives or intentions. Some know it is not the right but follow the path anyway.  The lady who says, heaven will be boring and hell fun might discover will be everyone to themselves. She might not have encountered any tragic incidence in life and watched too much movies.

Let me tell you a story. There was a particular instance when a house was burning. It was a big house with many tenants. There was no time for any on to ask how or where the fire started. People were just  running out of the building and calling out, “FIRE, FIRE, FIRE.” Everyone just wanted to get out and they were calling and counting those outside. A woman who had recently given birth was among the group. They congratulated her as she held on to a bundle which many assumed was her baby.

Suddenly, she realized the bundle she thought was her new baby was the baby’s beddings. It then occurred to her, she placed her baby on the bed to breastfeed. In the alarm and confusion of the fire, she ran to the baby’s cot instead. Thinking the baby was in the cot sleeping, she carried the whole bundle of blankets and pillows. Everyone began to wail as she tried to enter the burning building and retrieve her baby. This is life.

“But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” (Isaiah 43: 1-2.)

Indeed, if what is happening around the world is normal to you, you will not need this book. If the beheading of an old man by a six year old child in full public is normal to you, you will need to re-check your calendar. If you cannot trust your seven year old son in the hands of your pastor, something is wrong. If in the age of technological advancement like no other, you still have to brainstorm biased news, plenty is amiss.

A woman told me she has five televisions in her house. When I appeared surprised, she further explained that she has four children and each watch different channels.

This is apart from the one in the family sitting room which is rarely used. She further explained that her children were always arguing with each other on everything from celebrities as Justin Bieber to American idols. Therefore, this was the perfect solution.

Please, understand that this woman is earning minimum wage. She also has a fondness for complaining of money difficulties. Nevertheless, this ‘accomplishment’ is not new. This phenomenon is occurring in several homes as the world condition has changed.

Our children are confronted and confused with varying choices that they cannot even agree on having the same cereal for a hurried morning breakfast. As for the parents, they are in a perpetual daze of choice-labyrinth.

Turn on the television or your highly-prized cable news and you will witness a barrage of advices from experts, commentators politicians, past and present on what is about to befall us. With all the choices before us, a majority still feel hollow.

Why is that? Why do we go crazy in love with a person and the next month, we are seeking for another?

For those who lived in the era of no images, they looked back with anticipation and hysteria. They pray for such a time again. After observing the negative consequences of media intrusion in our quality of lives, they ask, “Where are those good old days?”  However, our Lord said in John 14:27 that, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
